I'm a Native American journalist, currently in grad school. I would not be where I am today without paid internships, scholarships and loans.
I think you're spot-on in your assessment. - "What perspectives are we screening out? Guess. It is as selective as any other kind of discrimination."
I don't believe any students I've met through the Native American Journalists' Association could spend that kind of money to secure an internship (I know I couldn't.)
How will this trend impact newsroom diversity in the future and is that even on the radar when news organizations make decisions that will effectively keep me and students like me out of their newsrooms?

Joe - Congratulations on your great work! Val and Anne really are great teachers, which I learned last spring at the Chips Quinn orientation. You deserve great props for taking the time to build up these skills!

So you are saying that none of my job titles should be capitalized on my resume? Doesn't this make it look sloppy? Should I at least capitalize the first word?

Thanks, Caitlin. Others have reacted to this decision, too. It amused some and ticked others off.

The best solution, of course, is to simply ask, "Do you mind if I set this glass of water down somewhere?"

just tried to leave a comment and it said error, so i'll try again.

Hi Joe,
One question: if you're not supposed to leave it on the desk, where are you supposed to put a wet and cold glass of water, on the floor? That might seem careless, an invitation to knock it over. If there was a side table, I guess I could set it there, but I wouldn't want to hold it because it would start to drip all over me. Unless I had a napkin of course...

Cheers,
Caitlin Rother
